Yellowstone Park Update

Summer is here at Yellowstone, the sun is shining daily, it's warm, the Yellowstone River is flowing! The beauty of the Yellowstone River is that no matter what the water level is, it's fun, splashy, and safety is always our number one priority.

Yellowstone Columbine

When you are on the water, you'll get a whole different view of Yellowstone. Watch bald eagles soar above, an antelope drink from the river, and if you are lucky you may get the chance to see the elusive river otter!

Yellowstone and the surrounding area is green, and the wild flowers are abundant. Seeing the land by horseback is a unique way to see the beauty of the area. While on our small group tours, you'll ride through forest, meadows, and even over small creeks.

Our ranch is located at 7,500 feet elevation and on our full day horseback ride you ride up to 10,000 feet! It's a place few people ever see and highly recommended.

Trips are filling up, you'll want to make your reservation now.

We Sure Do Have Fun

One of the most popular questions we get asked when people call to make reservations is "What makes you guys different than the other companies in town?"

Family fun on the Yellowstone

There are several very good reasons. One of our favorite reasons is Theme Days. If you show up at the Flying Pig and you feel like you've walked onto the set of Revenge of the Nerds, or you've left 2009 and entered 1986, most likely it's a Theme Day.

We like to have a lot of fun here at the Flying Pig. We've had guides go down the river dressed as super man! If you'd like to plan your trip on a theme day, give us a call to schedule your adventure. It's sure to be fun!

Upcoming Theme Days

June 19 - Cowboy/girl Day

June 24 - Flying Pig Day

The fun goes on all summer long. So if you can't make it to these, don't miss the fun boat! Give us a call to find out more and to make your summer reservations: 866-807-0744.

Where Giants Once Played...

That's how a 1922 park visitor described the Hoodoos Loop. The hike hasn't changed too much since then. On this 6.2 mile hike you'll cover a wide variety of land. You'll hike through dense forest and open meadows filled with wildflowers (if you are coming before mid July). You'll see the summits of several amazing peaks, and you'll see the hoodoos, what the trail is named for.

Yellowstone National Park Hoodoos

The hoodoos are large boulders that have been scraped off the mountain by glaciers and scattered all around (a long long time ago). It's really quite impressive.

It's a great hike for all levels and the variety of land you will traverse really makes it feel like you are perpetually wandering through new scenery.

It's a loop, so you'll end up back where you started without having to backtrack. Stop into the Flying Pig store for directions or more hiking suggestions.
