Spring in the Rockies

Snow is common through April. The animals of Yellowstone swing back into action after a long hard winter. Bears emerge from their dens hungry and ready to put on pounds.

Yellowstone Grizzly Bear

Yellowstone Grizzly bears frequently overtake "kills" made by wolf packs rather than exert their precious energy chasing after animals.

Bull Elk loose their antlers and start the yearly process of growing back their "horns". Talk about taking a load off...imagine removing a 40 pound hat after wearing it all year. Antlers can grow as much a 3 inches a day in early spring. Sign up now for our Wildlife Safari for your chance to see all of the wonderful animals in Yellowstone National Park.

News from Yellowstone

a note from Ranger Bill of the National Park Service

In his many years serving as a ranger at Yellowstone National Park, Bill has heard every question one could ask about the park. We recently asked him for his advice when planning a Trip to Yellowstone National Park. Here is what he had to say.

Yellowstone Bald Eagle

1) Plan Early
If you haven't reserved your Yellowstone Lodging...reserve now! Don't wait a minute longer. Old Faithful Inn is sold out for the summer of 2009 and our Yellowstone Rental Homes are almost booked for the summer.

Give us a call with questions and recommendations about where to stay and how to plan the best trip possible. Call us toll free 866-807-0744.

2) Don't spend your entire trip in the car
Many visitors think that they need to move locations every 1-3 nights to "be able to see all of Yellowstone". This is simply not true. You can see all of Yellowstone from one location. Continually moving from hotel to motel makes people frustrated and kids cranky. Stay in one location for 6-7 nights and have a vacation not a road trip.

3) Get outside and enjoy this amazing park
"85% of the visitors to Yellowstone never venture more than 200 yards from their car." Go hiking, go rafting, go horseback riding. Climb a mountain, do a Wildlife Safari. "Yellowstone has so much to offer, people miss out by spending too much time in the car."

The most popular activities sell out quickly...if you're interested in the Full Day Raft Trip, the Wildlife Tour, or Overnight Raft and Horseback Adventures, check availability and reserve now. Don't let the adventure leave you behind, call now with questions and to check availability.

How, Where & When to Watch the Old Faithful Geyser "Go Off"

Old Faithful is one of the most predictable Geysers in the world. It is also one of the most viewed. As many as 8,000 people might watch a single eruption in the summer. So how can you make the experience special and avoid huge crowds?

Old Faithful

1) Plan your day so that you watch an eruption in the morning or in the evening. Avoid 11:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Even consider watching it "blow its top" at night. Full moons are amazing at Old Faithful.

2) The estimated time of the next eruption is posted near Old Faithful. While you are waiting for the next eruption, explore the geyser basin directly behind Old Faithful. It is an easy walk where you can get away from crowds and see smaller mud-pots, hot springs, and other eruptions.

3) Watch the eruption from the backside of the Geyser. As you approach Old Faithful, follow the boardwalk to the right. It will eventually end and a trail to the upper geyser basin will start. There are no park service benches here, but there will be very few people. Enjoy!
